John E. Meeks,
MD
Dr. Meeks has been a practicing child and adolescent psychiatrist
for over forty-five years. He received his medical degree from the
University of Tennessee. He has taught at the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical School and the Georgetown University Medical
School. He has served as director of several child and adolescent
divisions in psychiatric hospitals. He is co-founder, and has served
as the president and Medical Director of The Foundation Schools
since 1975. The Foundation Schools operate four schools for students
with emotional disturbance K-12. He has authored several articles
on individual and group psychotherapy, behavior disorders of childhood,
treatment of adolescent suicide, adolescent substance abuse, hospitalization
and inpatient treatment and adolescent depression. Dr. Meeks is
best known for his classic textbook The Fragile Alliance and another
book on depression: High Times, Low Times: The Many Faces of Adolescent
Depression. Dr. Meeks has presented nationally and internationally.
In 1998 Dr. Meeks received the prestigious national Schonfeld Award
from the American Society for Adolescent Psychiatry for his lifetime
contributions to child and adolescent psychiatry.
Philippe J.Dupont, EdD
Dr. Dupont has been working with children and adolescents for twenty-nine
years. He has served as Associate Professor at The George Washington
University teaching courses in assessment, behavior management,
mainstreaming, diversity and behavior disorders. He has taught in
private and public schools. He has taught for the Prince George's
County Public Schools in Maryland and received his doctorate in Special
Education from the George Washington University in 1985. He served
as Principal and Education Director of The Pathways Schools for
eleven years and Director of The Foundation School of Prince George's
County for four years. He is also a consultant on staff development
for orphanages in Bosnia and Herzegovina with Training Workshops
International (TWI) for the Children. He presents workshops on various
topics in special education at the state, national and international
levels. He recently presented his work with the Bosnian orphanages
at the United States Institute of Peace Conference at the Airlie
Center in Warrenton, Virginia. He received the Rita Ives Outstanding
Alumni Award from The George Washington University in 1995 for his
contributions to the field of emotional disturbance. Dr. Dupont
was president of the Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education
Facilities (MANSEF) from 1997-1999. He has written articles
about adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems. He is
presently the Director of Development for The Foundation Schools.
